Oleson Reunion on the Big Horn Mountains

One again the great reunion on the top of the Big Horns has started.  Sam and I were supposed to go to a Peterson reunion in Emblem Thursday night, but didn't quite make it.  We were waiting for Andrea Jones and her three kids, Evan, Christian, and Andriella to pack and come with us.  She didn't have a reliable vehicle, so we let her use our van.  We stopped by Lovell at the Moncure home and talked with Sam's cousins for a while.  It became late, so we decided to stay in our camper in their driveway before heading up in the morning.  It was a great and busy weekend.  We tried to fit in the fun activities in between the rain.  Uncle Johnny and Aunt Janis and their families weren't able to make it.  They were greatly missed.

Getting ready for the rodeo.
Randon;  Brynn, Gracy, Andriella, Maren;  Cavery;  Javynn

Let it begin!

Aliza holding Creyton;  the Pledge of Allegiance;  Maren barrel racing;  Aliza helping Creyton;  Maren finishing up

Doing a little shooting...

We had a small window for some volleyball.  Girls against the boys.

We even got a little horse shoeing in.

Dinner and hang out time

Aunt Francie brought a board with all the relatives on it so we could try to guess who was who.  I only recognized  a few faces.  Sam probably did better.

Saying our goodbyes

Another great weekend!  So love our family reunions.

Oleson Family Reunion

Another August, another Oleson Reunion.
It was another great weekend.
Some of the families were able to make it, some were not and we missed them.

It started off just as usual, trouble.  This year we were overheating most the way up the mountain and had to stop every few miles to let it cool down.  That made for a long time getting there.

I love these people.
Uncle Johnny, Grandpa, Aunt Janis, Aunt Francie, Uncle Ken

Hanging out, waiting for the rodeo to start.

Pledge of Allegiance and Rodeo

Having some play time

Jill had home made root beer brewing during the rodeo and we had root beer floats afterwards.  Grandpa talked this year about the old man in the woods leaving shark teeth this year, instead of petrified wood. Steven was his helper.....

Aliza got to drive to the shooting area.   Maren got to drive the motorcycle and hold a baby!

This year, I decided to take a picture of each of the families, like we did at the Weaver reunion

Oleson Family Reunion- August 2008 - Big Horn Mts.

What a privilege it was to be a part of this family reunion. Every year on the same weekend in August, we go to the Big Horn Mts. and enjoy a wonderful time together. Sam's mother, LaRae, his grandfather and grandmother Oleson, and cousin Matt are no longer with us on this earth, but we reminisce of the great memories we have of them during this weekend together, along with making new ones with cousins, aunts, and uncles old and new. We are very grateful for the knowledge that Families are Forever.

Below are Sam's aunts, uncles and father.

L-R, aunt Cheryl, uncle Johnny, his wife aunt Janice, aunt Francie, her husband uncle Ken, and last LaRae's sweet hubby, Sam's dad, Sam Lyle.

We enjoyed the "oldies" type dancing

Heard some great songs from Steven, Sam's brother, that he wrote himself.
Glad it wasn't too dry to make a fire and enjoy all that goes along with it.

Maren and cousin Callin

Enjoyed the 2nd annual Oleson Reunion Rodeo.

Brother- in-law Mike going to the Rodeo

We had the bucking bronco competition....
Jackson falling off his bronco (he did make 8 seconds)

Aliza danced around more like a ballerina kicking her legs oh so delicately
Barrel racing......

Maren racing around the barrels
Uncle Ken didn't miss very often on roping the nieces and nephews
We enjoyed some wonderful root beer floats afterwards

Thank you to cousin Jill for putting the rodeo together, hopefully baby Grace won't keep it from happening next year:)

Later that day a few of us shot clay pigeons,

yes, this is me shooting, and I hit it to smithereens!
Marks woman Maren.
Suzie's Sharp Shooter, Sage
We enjoyed more songs from Steven....
and more dancing......

After a very spiritual testimony meeting (it was Sunday morning), we cleaned up camp........
and said goodbye to our campsite until next year.

Again, what a privilege to marry into such a great family. I'm glad my children can know their great-aunts and uncles and have such memories of dancing with them, learning the whip and roping, and listening to their great testimonies.
