State Gymnastics Meet

Friday evening was Jackson's state meet.  This is his team ranging from level 4 to level 10.  They all did a wonderful job on all events except the pommel.  The pommel was very slippery and wobbly, so almost all the boys (on all the teams) fell off at least once during their routines.
There were only four level 7's competing this year, and they were split by age groups, so Jackson and his buddy Jake were the only two.  Jackson took first in every event except pommel, which Jake was so excited.  He had the biggest smile on his face when he stood on first for pommel and said "I beat Jackson!"  Jackson ended up taking 1st in all around, therefore making him the state champ in his group :).  His score ended up being an 84.6, which was about what he got in Portland.  That is a wonderful score!
Regionals is in Tacoma next Saturday.  We are excited to see him perform there!!!
Good Luck buddy!

State Champion!

What an exciting meet we had in Helena on Friday.  This was the state championship meet.
In order to make it to the 3:00 meet, we thought we should leave around 9:00 or so to make sure we got there without stressing out too much.  Of course this was the one day in weeks for a Winter Storm Advisory.  Knowing my husband, I gave ourselves an extra hour in case we were running behind.  Sam had to run a case in to the lab, and was going to be right back.  He, however, had to stay and answer some questions about the case.  9:00 came, he wasn't home.  9:15, not answering his phone (he left it in the car).  9:30, nothing.  9:45...Where is he?  Finally at 9:55 I call the lab to see if he was still there.  He was, he wouldn't have been able to get home for at least another 1/2 hour.  We could not wait that long.  So, Jackson, Maren, and I took off for the meet.  We made it there with an hour to spare.  It was probably good that we didn't go with Sam, because we were going to take the truck, which he drove, (I took the van).  He could only go 65 miles an hour because of a bent rear rod that was shaking the truck terribly.  Even though he was a 1/2 hour behind us, he didn't make it to the meet until an hour after it started.
I was having a hard time getting pictures and video, so after a few shots, I put the camera away, and just enjoyed the meet.
It was a close meet,  all the boys in his level were getting similar scores.  Jackson took first on the floor and vault, 2nd on high bar, pommel horse, and rings, and 3rd in P-bars.
When it came to All Around scores, he took the gold!  State Champ!  We were so excited and proud of our little boy.
Maren was very adamant about getting Jackson a rose.  I'm glad she did, Jackson really liked it.... even though it was pink.
Congratulations Jacks.  We are so proud of you!
Good Luck at regionals in Oregon!

Jackson's State Meet in Great Falls

Two weeks ago, March 21, was Jackson's State Gymnastics Meet. I regret to say that I didn't take my good camera or video camera (this picture is the best one I have. I was very disappointed). However, my mom was able to fly up for the occasion and travel with us. Clint, Amy, Kyla and Karissa came as well.

Jackson had a wonderful meet. It was awesome to watch. His first few events he scored very high. His last three about average. Which put him in 1st place All Around. There was a bit of a mix-up with one of his scores, so he originally was called up as 2ND place All Around. We talked to his coach and he, Sam and Jackson went to the people that tallied all the scores. When they put his correct score in, they said "That changes things". He became 1st! They had to go to the boy who was already presented with the plaque (Jackson is holding above). They explained things to the mom and showed her the scores. She was very graceful and said, "Well, I would have done the same thing" and handed the plaque to Jackson. After all the awards have been presented, they went back and announced Jackson as 1st All Around in his level.

Congratulations Jackson!!!!

STATE CHAMP!!!

Good Luck at Regionals!

Jackson's State Gymnastics Meet

It has taken me a little long to get this blog out. Sam has been helping me get this video from our video recorder. We cleaned it up a little, and even tried to put some music to it. I know we can figure it out, but I wanted to get this done. We will try another time with another video. So, get some good energetic music, turn it up, and enjoy Jackson's 2008 State gymnastics meet.

This is Jackson's 2nd year in actual competition. He presently is training in level 7 for the coming season. Practice at this stage is 2 1/2 hours per day, three days per week. He enjoys it and wants to continue, so we'll keep on supporting him. However, he wants to do other sports like basketball and football; we'll just have to see how far he wants to go. He is excited to watch the gymnasts in the Olympics this August. We love to watch Jackson.
