When remembering that I have been 40 years old for a month, I realized I didn't post about my birthday cake that we had at our office luncheon. This was just supposed to be an office lunch, not a surprise birthday lunch, my birthday wasn't for another 5 days! When I walked in to the restaurant, there was a balloon with a big 40 on it, and a black frosted cake with candles in it. There were black plates and napkins that said "over the hill" etc... you get the picture. Anyway, after a very delicious lunch, it was time to cut the cake and eat it. I get a regular butter knife, and Sam says..."We might need to get a sharper knife to cut that" and starts to get up. In the mean time, Amy is on my left turning her head trying to keep her laugh inside. I start to cut, and the knife wouldn't cut through. Everyone had a big smile on their face waiting. I didn't know what was up, but I knew some sort of joke was going on, so I stopped. Everyone started laughing, I saw a little paper poking out of the frosting, started to rip at it, and realized it was toilet paper!!! How mean:)
I guess when the birthday person cuts into the cake, they are supposed to have a hard time, be embarrassed, not strong enough, getting too old, not know what to do, and everyone gets a big laugh. It was funny, I just don't like being the center of attention, too emarrassing.

Amy had a hard time frosting it with this frosting (she said at first the cake was too warm and melted the frosting, that's why it didn't look too good), she said she might try to use whip cream, or cool whip next time. Put some candles on and WALLA!!!
I actually was asked to make one next week for another lady at the office. She was out of town during that luncheon, and it is her birthday next week....:) We'll see how it turns out.

Becca, that is so funny. How could you forget to post that! Someone was asking if I had any 40 year birthday pranks, I didn't. I should have called you, that was a good one. For someone who just ran a half marathon (well last year), I'm sure you are very strong!
i hate being the center of attention for pranks like that too but im sure it was real funny. you only turn 40 once so enjoy whatever pranks come your way. good luck on making your prank cake.
I walked into your kitchen after that party and wondered what in the world I was looking at! That was the cake and what a look it had! There is no way that you look or are over the hill! That is a fact, O.K.? Think 19! That is what 78 yr old Pat Davis says who just directed a huge musical for youths at risk. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. These youth had never been on stage before and it was terrific!
Wow! That is one UGLY cake! Nothing like the person it belonged too. How fun to be totally surprised like that! Happy 40th. Remember, we're celebrating ALL YEAR LONG.
