Prayer

Posted with permission from LaRae's oldest son, Sam.
This picture was drawn by Donna "LaRae" (Sam's mom) when she was a young girl.
She wrote a poem to go along with it. It reads
At night I kneel beside my bed
to speak to God above.
I thank him for the things I have
and tell him of my love.
I am so still and quiet as I
wait for him to hear
When a sweetness fills my heart
I know that he is near.
Today, my thoughts have been a lot on prayer. The theme this month in Primary is: I can pray to Heavenly Father, and he will hear and answer prayers.
I had the privilege of giving sharing time today, and I felt, so strong, the Spirit reconfirming to me the importance of prayer. The scripture this month comes from Mark 11:24........Therefore, I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them.
How a simple prayer can be so powerful. The words may be short, and not so eloquent, but with faith, ye shall have them. I have found myself not being so diligent in saying my prayers every morning, and even sometimes I may fall asleep before I get my evening prayers in. I have re-committed to be better at doing this. I will not leave my room unless I have said my morning prayer, even at 5:55 a.m. before I take Sammy to Seminary, we may even be a little late, but I will pray first.
God loves us all, he wants to hear from us. He wants to bless us, sometimes all he is waiting for is us to ask. It may not be immediate (from experience) but he will answer.
There have been many times in my life that I recognized his answer to my prayer. One being; to be able to find a righteous husband and know that he is the right man for me. I waited a long time (24 years old when I met the right one) (yaeh, I know not real long to some people, but long for me:), but let me tell you, after our third date, I knew that Sam was the one I have been waiting for. Talk about "lightning strike".
Another one being; stuck on the side of the road with a broken down car, in the middle of no- where Montana, dark, my two young girls with me, out of cell service, and not very many cars going by. After about a half hour of praying, waiting, and having faith, I swear the "three nephites" stopped by to help. They were disguised as young men coming home from a hunting trip, but one had been taking a course in automobile, and somehow figured out what was wrong with my car, got it going again, and followed me to the next town to make sure I wouldn't break down again. When I offered them money, they would not take it. When I wanted their address to at least send a note to their parents, they said don't worry about it, and were off.
I am thankful for a loving Father in Heaven who knows us, knows our needs, and will answer our prayers.
If any of you have a story about prayer you would like to share, I would love to hear it:)

Thanks for the inspiration, Becca! I have never prayed so fervently as when we were going through everything with Brigham. I was so worried about him suffering or me not being able to handle an emergency if something went wrong. Even though the Lord's will wasn't altered and Brigg still had a short mission on earth, the Lord answered my prayers by letting everything happen extremely peacefully. I will always be grateful for that answer to prayer & the Lord's tender mercies.

What an inspiring lesson to us all! Thank You, Rebecca. I love the picture of the child praying. LaRae was a good artist and poem writer. That looks exactly like Boston in the picture. I have had many prayers answered over the years.

the picture is beautiful and such a great reminder of prayer. i have been on my knees many times since i have been in texas with needing lots of help and giving lots of thanks, and i know that heavenly father answers our prayers, in ways that sometimes you don't understand until it happens. things have not worked out for us by the way we planned but we are still so happy and have made adjustments to our new living style here.
that was a great blog becca, and i'm glad you found sam, even though you waited a long time, cause he is a great uncle

Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts on prayer. I love the picture you put on the blog done by LaRae. After she drew that picture my Mom framed it and it hung in my childhood bedroom for many years. It brings back to me memories of my mother always coming in and staying by our bedside as we prayed our evening prayers before going to sleep. We were taught to pray for our parents, for our brother and sisters, for our grandparents, and our aunts and our uncles and for everyone else in the world. How grateful I am for those early life lessons in a humble home.
